No inmates have yet been moved into the new Bledsoe County Correctional Complex and it is already slated for a $30 million expansion.
The addition to the $208 million Bledsoe County Correctional Complex is part of the budget proposal submitted to the Tennessee General Assembly by Gov. Bill Haslam.
Tennessee Department of Correction spokeswoman Dorinda Carter told the Chattanooga Times Free Press there is space within the secure perimeter for two more buildings to house prisoners.
Officials said the planned expansion will bring the number of state prison beds in Bledsoe County to 2,926.
