Effective Monday, February 4, there was a new policy put in place at Tracy City Elementary in Grundy County.
The policy says parents can no longer walk their kids to their classes. They now only can walk them as far as the gym for the morning assembly.
Tuesday, NewsChannel 9 in Chattanooga learned Grundy County Schools and the Sheriff’s Office have taken several actions since Sandy Hook’s mass shooting in Connecticut.
The school’s superintendent says every school in the district can make rules and policies, within reason, to keep children safe. Many parents agree with school’s keeping kids safe, but have two questions.
“Where was our notification? When did we get that?” says one parent.
Grundy County Sheriff Brent Myers supports having an officer at every school. It’s obviously a change for parents, but hopefully all for a good cause.
In Coffee County and Manchester City Schools policemen and deputies are now doing daily walkthroughs at area schools.
