The City of Manchester board of Mayor and Aldermen received a surprising letter on Monday, a resignation from Fire Chief Charlie Taylor. Taylor accepted the job of chief in August after serving as assistant chief and fireman for several years.
Taylor says he and his wife will be leaving the area for Huntsville, Alabama, where their daughter lives.
Taylor has been with the city since starting as a policeman in 1990 and moving to the fire department in 1997. He told the board in the letter that decision was not an easy to make and thanked them for the confidence they showed in him.
Taylor’s last day with the City of Manchester will be Feb. 8, 2013.
Mayor Lonnie Norman said he hates to see Charlie leave but wished him well. Norman said Assistant Chief Mark Reed will be in charge of the department until a new chief is named. Norman added that he may look outside the city for next fire chief of Manchester.
