The 55th Annual
Manchester Lions Club Horse Show
Saturday, October 6, 2012, 6:00 P.M.
Coffee County Fairgrounds
The horse show is the main source of funding for the Manchester
Lions Club’s service projects, some of which are paying for eye
exams and, if needed, eyeglasses for those who cannot afford
them (just under $6,000 this year); collecting and paying postage
for used eyeglasses to be mailed to collection centers, then to
third world countries to be distributed to the very poor, who are
given eye exams and are fitted for glasses; sponoring a Little
League team ($400); sponsoring the LEO Club and two
scholarships at the high school ($1100); and many other
community services. Every dollar raised at this event goes to
sight service projects or others, as mentioned earlier.
There will be a special exhibition of this year’s World Grand
Champion Owner-Amateur Two Year Old Walking Horse, crowned
at the National Tennessee Walking Horse Celebration in
Shelbyville just one month ago. The horse’s owner and rider, Jo
Ann Dowell and Sue Ann Dowell, respectively, are from Ohio
and plan to attend.
The Emergency Management Agency will be selling delicious pork barbecue
and barbecue chicken - plates and sandwiches.
Come enjoy a good meal, watch lots of fine horses strut their
stuff, choose your favorites and cheer them on, all the while
helping Manchester Lions serve those who are in need,
especially in the area of sight conservation. Helen Keller, many
years ago, charged the Lions to be “Knights of the Blind”. Lions
everywhere accepted, and are still accepting that challenge
today. Join us as “We Serve” together.
Tickets: $5 for 13 - adult; $3 for ages 6 - 12; free below 12
Can be purchased before date of show at any of the
phone numbers listed on the manchesterlionsclub.com
site and go to the “pecan” link.
