Oh, the memories of the black and white Philco TV in the tiny den, magically giving us the pictures and sounds of places we had never been…like the wild wild west, where cowboys wore those fancy hats, where beautiful sleek horses galloped along, where herds of cattle seemed to rumble by as one unit. The action always seemed to have a calm interlude around the campfire, with guitars and songs that soothed the moods of the cowboys, the cattle, and even the TV viewer.
Nostalgia comes to Tullahoma on Saturday, September 22, 2012 at 7:30 PM, when Jason Petty and The Swingin’ Cowboys perform at South Jackson Civic Center as the kickoff to the Performing Arts Series, consisting of four shows throughout the 2012-2013 season.
“The Swingin’ Cowboys” is a tribute to the music of the Great American West. Jason Petty narrates the history of those early pioneers who brought the popular songs with them. Gene Autry and Roy Rogers recorded some of those songs, and brought them to the silver screen.
Western Swing Music became popular with band leaders Bob Wills and Spade Cooley. It became the dance craze of the 1930s and 40s. Jason Petty’s Swingin’ Cowboys will take us down that memory lane, as well.
Song selections for the evening will surely make the viewer with a bit of vintage want to sing along! A partial list of the program’s songs are as follows:
