Franklin County Out of the Darkness Community Walk

Franklin County Out of the Darkness Community Walk

Franklin County’s very first suicide awareness walk will take place on October 5th at the old Franklin County High School Football Stadium.  This walk is called the “Franklin County Out of the Darkness Community Walk” which is part of the “Out of the Darkness” walks that are done at over 240 locations around the United States and include around 85,000 participants annually.   Event spokesperson, Jayson Davis said, “These walks are happening all over the U.S. and we are very excited that the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is partnering with us to bring it to Franklin County.  Suicide is much more common than a lot of us like to admit.  It is the 4th leading cause of death among adults ages 18-65.”

Participants for the event will raise money that will be used to promote suicide awareness on both the local scene and the national scene through the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

Davis stated, “All it took was a simple dream by board chairperson Karen Owens to prevent just one person from making the mistake of suicide to start the ball rolling and make a difference for the Franklin County area”.

This walk will feature a very a heart-touching balloon release and a very talented musical line-up that includes country music recording artist Blaine Larsen who will feature his heart felt song “How Do You Get That Lonely” which is focused on suicide.  For more information on the event, please refer to the following:
