We encourage everyone to use the extra hour they “gain” from daylight saving time to change the batteries in their own smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors, test them, and remind friends, family, and neighbors to do the same. If a smoke alarm is over 10 years old or working improperly, the International Association of Fire Chiefs recommends that you replace it. In addition, use the extra hour “gained” to also practice your fire escape plan and check your fire extinguishers!
